What I did last night, part 3

It was Wednesday. And it was not a happy, feel-good day.

Horrible news had been delivered at work. Although many of us knew all day that it was coming, I didn't expect it to feel as devastating as it did, to hear that more of my colleagues were losing their jobs. It literally took my breath away.

So I took solace in my some of my favorite foods -- tacos and lemon cupcakes from hello, cupcake. Oh, and beer.

My wonderful husband took The Boy and I out to El Toro, the Mexican place right up the road. Ah, sweet comfort in yummy chicken tacos and a cold Pacifico. (Plus kids eat free on Wednesdays, a nice bonus for the wallet.) My friend (and colleague) Dusti joined us briefly for some coffee and conversation. She is a great friend.

We came home. I cleaned and cored strawberries and cut oranges into slices to send for The Boy's fiesta at day care. Then I sat down with my delicious lemon cupcake to watch "Modern Family."

It was an exhausting day, emotionally. I could barely keep my eyes open by the end of it. When I curled up in bed, I gave thanks for my husband and my son, who keep me strong and give my days -- even the bad ones -- lots of joy.
